These vibrant, handcrafted carriers are named for Ghana's Bolgatanga region-the crafts centre of northern Ghana. Women all over the world carry Bolga baskets as purses; take them to market; or use them for storage, decoration or gift-giving.

Each basket is hand-woven and dyed, starting with kinkanhe-a.k.a. elephant grass-an indigenous grass found throughout the region. The grass is cut, twisted and then bunched before being dyed in a kaleidoscopic of brilliant colors.

Bolgatanga is known as the crafts centre of northern Ghana with a large central market. Apart from items found elsewhere in Ghana, the so-called "Bolga baskets" and "Bolga hats" are made and sold there. FairTaleGhana is honored to partner with Yen Pang Basket Weavers.
